Events

Many events occur throughout the year within the City of Hemphill and Sabine County, since our community has historic, tourist, and community-centered events.  The Sabine County Chamber of Commerce is a good source for finding out information about all events, and up-to-date information from the Chamber can be found at their Facebook Page at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/sabinecountychamber/ or by calling (409) 787-2732.

February

• 1^st of each year—Patricia Huffman Smith “Remembering Columbia” Museum hosts a memorial service each year to commemorate the loss of STS-107.  

March 

• Sabine County Junior Livestock Show and Western Weekend—One weekend is the Livestock show with youth exhibitors from 4-H and FFA, and the next weekend is the Western Weekend Rodeo, Parade, and booths on the square.  Youth show and Rodeo are held at Sabine County Youth Foundation Rodeo Arena.

• Hemphill Garden Club Annual Fashion Show 
• Puttin' on the Ritz hosted by the Hemphill ISD Education Foundation 

April

• Hemphill Garden Club Annual Plant Sale 

May

• 1st weekend every year—Sale on the Trail—on the Old El Camino Real--The El Camino Real Sale on the Trail takes place the first Friday & Saturday in May along 111 miles of the historic El Camino Real de los Tejas. Make plans to drive the trail for yard sale bargains! Hop in your car and go along Hwy 6 in LA starting at Natchitoches and then west across Toledo Bend Lake to Texas Hwy 21 into Milam, TX, and keep going for a great adventure and great finds! 

July

• 4^th of each year-Six Mile Fire Department Fireworks Show

August

• Sharon Shrine Circus-located at the Sabine County Youth Foundation Rodeo Arena. 

September or October

• Hemphill High School Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally on the Square—held in conjunction with the HHS Homecoming Football game, depending on the football schedule.  

October

• Hemphill Lions Club Haunted House “A Nightmare on Barber Street”
• 3^rd Saturday – Pioneer Trade Day at the Gaines Oliphant House
• Boo Bash held at the Sabine County Youth Foundation Rodeo Arena—Saturday prior to Halloween. 

November 

• 11^th - Veteran’s Day Ceremony on the Courthouse Square
• 3^rd Weekend - Milam Settlers Day—5K Run/Walk, Vendors, Re-enactors, Music, Food, and Milam’s Little Pioneer Pageant.  

December 

• Hemphill Lion’s Club Christmas Parade and Festivities including the lighting of the square and Santa and Mrs. Claus—first Saturday in December.
